Club news

The curse of Bogey 3
continued on Saturday. Play started in the morning, despite the fog being pretty thick. However, from just after 2pm, it became even thicker so although lots of players had battled to complete their rounds, the competition had to be called off. It has been rescheduled for this Saturday so fingers crossed for third time lucky.

The ladies String Competition however did take place successfully on Thursday. In this event, each player gets a piece of string, the length of which is their handicap in inches. This can then be used on one occasion per hole to move their ball out of trouble, move it closer to the hole and even get it back in bounds if it was only out by a small amount. Sally Wright tied the rest of field in knots with a fantastic score of 34 points over the fourteen holes, which resulted in her winning by a whopping seven points. Second place went to Corinne Veitch following a card playoff with Jan Ravenscroft.

The Get Well Weekend Golf Society, which was founded in 1972, had its last ever get-together on Wednesday 23rd November due to dwindling attendances in recent years. Twelve men were present and they can be seen in the photo below. The attendees that were members of Hale GC were as follows: John Acratopulo, Brian Twiss, Chris Mawson, Alistair Mawson and Andrew Richards. John Joyce, who is on the back row second from right, although no longer a member of HGC was in fact our captain in 1989.
