Happy new year to you all. Hope you had a fantastic break over Christmas and that your batteries are now fully re-charged to take on fresh challenges in 2017.
At the Booth household, there were many presents exchanged but as is often the way one of the cheapest ended up being one of the most used. We picked up the old school board game Ludo in Sainsburys for next to nothing and my seven year old twin girls Sophie and Charlotte seem to revel in the ruthless nature of it.
Needless to say they've won many more games than I've manged to but I of course claim to be losing just to keep the peace...
So as there's not been a newsletter for a couple of weeks because of the Christmas break, I think it's time to do a quick round up of some of the events that happened here at HGC during that time.
The ladies Christmas shot gun start nine hole competition followed by lunch on Thursday 15th was another great success.
As usual many of the players really entered into the spirit of it with some fantastic fancy dress which they then graced the golf course in. Two that really stood out for me were Vicky Chamberlain in her angel outfit and Tracey Thompson in her glasses.
The winners of the competition with 31 points were Min Fishwick, Caroline Massey, Sue Bromley and Jane Perks. Well done to the winners and everyone for getting involved.
laid on a fantastic Christmas lunch with all the trimmings on Sunday, 11 December.
105 guests attended and were entertained with Christmas music & carols by Rupert Sheen
, Roger Sheen's brother. Roger
and Mike Kirchin
did a great job ring leading the "Twelve Days of Christmas". The photo on the right shows Tommy Griffiths
and Jonny Yates
getting into the action with a "Partridge in a Pear Tree" on the Captains table - some dared to suggest that it is fortunate that we will be refurbishing the furniture in the New Year.
A big thanks must go to Jan Ravenscroft
for all her hard work organising these great events (and supplying me with newsletter content), Sue Bryant
for excellent weekly photos of the ladies prize winners and also to Gillian Brogdon
for doing such a great job doing the club's flowers week in and week out. Pro Shop Christmas Draw
The Pro Shop Christmas draw took place on Friday, 16 December and there was a big turn out, largely down to the great curry that Jason and Heather laid on I suspect.
The prizes were all vouchers to spend in the Pro Shop.
The first prize of £250
went to Kathleen McNairney
who was thrilled and has told me she's going to use it to treat herself to a new driver.
Second place went to Penny Hughes
and she received a £200
voucher whilst third place went to Philip Long
and he won £150
Fourth to seventh place inclusive received prizes of £100
and they were Chris Bluer
, Dave Smith
, Terri Broadbent
and Mary Cockbain
Eighth place was Ian Goulty
and the final spot was Karen Stockton
Thank you so much to all of you who entered and supported the draw, it really is hugely appreciated and of course congratulations to all the winners.
Finally here's another another excellent photo sent in from Terri Broadbent
of Jill Gower-Jones
on a frosty first fairway between Christmas and New Year.
