It was the Captains' Drive In on Saturday. Cliff Wright and Pat Jefferies did so in fine style in the brilliant sunshine with a good crowd to watch them. Below is a photo of them beforehand looking mighty relaxed. The other photo is of our new vice President Barbara Grant with current President Andrew Pendleton.
After the Drive In and the lunch that followed there was a nine hole match for the Victory Cup contested between the ladies and the gentlemen. On this occasion the men prevailed and so pictured below is Cliff with the trophy.
The winner of Thursday's 3 clubs and a putter competition (after more rain and sadly another trolley ban!) was Wendy Jenkins with 16 points. Wendy can be seen above with Val Nelstrop receiving her prize which was one of Val's last duties before she handed over the reigns to Pat. Val told me that she's really enjoyed her year and she's done a great job, so she's looking forward to a holiday to be able to catch up some R and R! Second place went to Gillian Healey with 15 points and then three players shared third place with 14 points.
The ladies beginner groups start after Easter. The Tuesday class is now completely full but there are two spaces left in the Thursday class at 10.30am and also two spaces available in the 6pm class also on a Thursday. Please contact me ASAP by clicking here or on 07979 422749 for more details if you have a friend or family member who might be interested.
I had the great pleasure of playing both courses at Woodhall Spa on Monday and Tuesday with Hale GC country member Ian Ritchie. They'd been on both of our golfing bucket lists for quite some time and we weren't disappointed. They were lovely and dry under foot and the heathland turf was a joy to play from. The layouts are quite different and they are well worth the trip of just over three hours (if you get a good run...!) The photo included is from the 3rd fairway with the iconic tower in the background.
They offer packages where you have a round on each course together with bed and breakfast in the town which were great value for money. I wonder if I was to arrange a trip there again for a group of Hale members what level of interest there would be (click here and let me know if it is).
And finally.... I love these three photos (especially the dual selfie) sent in by Conrad Nelstrop of his great pal Jonty Fallows getting his first ever hole in one on Sunday on the second hole. Not sure why he wasn't at home spoiling Sue with it being Mother's Day but well done Jonty on an ace achievement!
