Hale Golf Club PGA Golf Professional
Well wasn't the Masters fantastic? It was played in a brilliant spirit and Sergio's iron play was just stellar! He triumphed in his 74th start in a major, many including himself wondered if he would ever make the breakthrough. Here's his quote from five years ago:
"I'm not good enough. I don't have the thing I need to have. I've come to the conclusion that I need to play for second or third place."
One of the best players in the world expressing that level of self-doubt and vulnerability just goes to show it's a tough old game - technically and mentally! I think everyone in the golfing world (with perhaps the exception of Justin Rose!) is thrilled for him.
Paul Simpson has a similar story...He's generously entered pretty much every sweepstake I've ever run here at Hale and seemed to lose faith when he kept getting "duffers and also-rans". As you can imagine, Paul being Paul barely mentioned this run of bad luck! However, he of course had Mr Garcia this time around and so was finally a winner, making off with the top prize of £75 worth of Pro Shop credit. John Moss had Justin Rose and so snagged second place in the sweepstake. The full list of the results has been emailed out to the entrants. Many thanks as always to everyone who took part. Next up is the Open Sweepstake which I start running from mid-June.
Well done to Ian Macklin (pictured) for winning the Spring Stableford on Saturday with 40 points and getting his handicap down to 25. Tarik Rashid and Jonny Gray were tied second just one point behind. There were 13 twos recorded on the day and CSS was 69.
Congratulations also to Min Fishwick for winning last week's Ladies Par. Min was one up. Second place with one down were Barbara Spark and Helen Davies. The CSS was 71. Sorry I don't have a photo of Min for you :(
Away from David Wainwright, Brian Greenbank, David's brother Michael and John Newton won the MaxiTours Team Event at Mere last week with 87 points. The format is the best two from four. David and Brian are of course Hale members who, like Sergio, have been plugging away for some time but have now made the breakthrough. I believe Brian was magnificent and David not so much...! Well done gents!
There are still some spaces left in the Pro-Am which takes place on Saturday 24th June 2017. As things stand they are all morning tee times. Click here to view the entry form and please contact me ASAP to enter a team. As you'll see it's open to members and non-members and ladies and gentlemen.
And finally..... Jason, Heather and the staff can be seen pictured following another fabulous evening at HGC last Friday.
They served up a four course candlelit dinner which included succulent scallops and the most amazing rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection. Over 70 members and guests attended.
Thank you Jan for the photo!
It’s time to consider something different
The majority of golfers are switching to Lithium batteries to power their electric trolley because, with a 5-year limited warranty, it provides a reliable and more cost-effective option than a Lead-Acid alternative. Now is the ideal time to swap as we’re offering £25 OFF a Lithium battery when you trade-in your old one.

Garcia and Rose had a brilliant battle on Sunday afternoon, but there was plenty of outstanding golf on show throughout the week and here we take a look at the best shots from Augusta.
I hope you enjoyed this week's newsletter. As always, if you have anything that you'd like to contribute please speak to one of the pro shop team. I'll see you at the club over the coming days.
