Hale Golf Club PGA Golf Professional
The clubhouse extension continues at full pace and here's a photo kindly sent in by Sandra Mossop of the roof being lifted into place by a big crane last week.
Talking about the clubhouse extension, I heard a little story which amused me the other day. One of the members (who shall remain nameless!) brought a guest down for a game the other day and they were just having a drink together in the bar afterwards. The guest then needed the loo and enquired as to where they were. "They're outside" said the member to which the guest replied, quick as a flash "Outside? I thought you told me this was a posh golf club!"
Well done to Humphrey Grundy for rolling back the years and winning the medal on Saturday with a sparkling 65. Neil Thompson also had the same score but was beaten on countback. There were four other nett sub-par rounds and they were 66, 67, 68 and 69 scored by Dave Smith, David Swale, Craig Rea and James Scott respectively. The CSS of the day was 69.
Ladies Coronation Foursomes
The winners of the ladies Coronation Foursomes last Thursday were Caroline Massey and Judy Anderson with a very tidy score of 36 points. In the photo below, they are flanked by Rosie Gerrard the prize giver and the lady captain Pat Jefferies. Congratulations ladies! Second place with 30 points was shared by three pairs Mandy Gilbert & Janet Grant, Ceri Hyde & Lynette Lodge, and Caroline Perkin & Margaret Sharp.
The first Adult/Junior event of 2017 took place on Friday. We tried a different format to get the teams away and did a shotgun start which worked really well. Everyone arrived back in the clubhouse at a similar time, so we could have the presentation and then those that wanted to eat could do so together. We'll be trying this format again, so we'd be grateful if you could look out for the dates on the club calendar and allow the competitors some space.
Anyway back to the last Friday's event and Will Grant and his mum, Janet, were the winners over the nine holes. We played foursomes stableford from the forward tees. Second place went Lucien and Andrew Page with 18 points and one point adrift of them were Alex and Joe Mills. The best newcomer prizes were awarded to Pablo Flemming and Ella Smith.
The next event is on Friday 19th May with a shotgun start time of 17.45pm. To enter email me here or call the pro shop.
