Thursday Stableford Competition
Congratulations to Lady Captain Pat Jefferies for winning last Thursday's Stableford Competition with 37 points, although I'm not sure whether that sort of thing is allowed during your term of office Pat! She can be seen pictured with lady secretary Vicky Chamberlain.
Five players shared second place with 36 points and they were Tracey Thompson, Min Fishwick, Clare Withey, Pam Dixon and Fiona Woodcock. It was a good scoring day as there were eight birdies during the day, one of which was in the nine hole competition.
Junior Comp Update
We had the second supervised Junior competition of 2017 on Sunday with a brilliant turnout of 16 players. All of them played from the forward tees but some have already proved themselves to be ready for the ladies tees in the next competition. Max Hilton, Charlie Hindle and Edward Lord shared the best gross score of the day with 44 whilst Lucas Aldcroft had the best nett with 24 (the par of the course from the forward tees is 30). All the players now have a forward tee handicap which is a good stepping stone towards a full one in due course. A big well done to everyone who took part and the parents who helped "herd" them round! The next one is on Sunday 25th June. Tee times again are from 2pm so please contact me here or by phone to enter.
Adult/Junior Comp - 19th May
This Friday is the second Adult/Junior event of the season and it's a shotgun start from 5.45pm so please take note of this if you are planning a game on Friday afternoon. The course will be tied up for a couple of hours or so from that time. Thank you for your consideration and understanding as we encourage the next generation of golfers here at HGC!
The Wrecking Ball
Last Friday night saw the last social event of the current clubhouse take place with the "Wrecking Ball". It was a fancy dress evening where apparently some jeans were spotted in the building?! Party goers dressed up as builders wearing high viz jackets, hard hat and tattoos! The music was pitched perfectly as the dance floor was packed all evening. Jan Ravenscroft told me that even the food had a construction theme with Jason doing a clever gourmet twist on a builders lunch box... can I say that in a newsletter?!
Anyway a great time was had by all, as the photos below show, as the old clubhouse drew to the end of it's era, ready for it's next incarnation. Evenings like that just don't happen by themselves so Tracey Thompson deserves a special mention as she masterminded the creative effects and decor. She was ably assisted by the social team including Sandra Mossop, Gail Sampson, Emma Daynes, Terri Broadbent, Roger Sheen, Gill Kay and Jan Ravenscroft.
Almost As Good As Me...
I am a big fan of Adam Young, a golf professional who is an author and blogger and in my opinion a great coach. I believe he's from Wales originally but currently plies his trade in the US. About 18 months ago, I bought his book "The Practice Manual; the Ultimate Guide for Golfers", based on great reviews on Amazon, which I loved and so went on to buy his online video series. I am in no way affiliated to him but I just love his style and content as it closely matches my philosophy on how to get better at this great but often frustrating game of golf.
There's no need to spend any money as his newsletters (which are nearly as good as mine!) are free. Here is a link to one of his recent ones on "Gear Effect" which is an informative read. I've recommended him to a few HGC members and they've got a lot from it and so I hope you do too!
