Welcome golfers to this week's newsletter!
The seventh consecutive Hale GC Pro Am took place on Saturday and was again a really great day. Twenty three teams took part and there was some excellent golf played.
The winners of the team prize were the chairman of greens Andy Veitch, Corinne Veitch, Roger Flint and their professional Graham Cox from Lymm GC (all pictured). Their score was 19 under which was the best score we've had in recent times. Tom Griffiths, Tony Bray, Nigel Reed and their professional Jon Cheetham were in second place with 18 under.
The professional individual event was won by Andy Raitt from St George's Hill GC in Surrey. He shot a magnificent eight under par 62 to win by four from David Shacklady from Mossack Hall.
Andy was the only pro not to come from the North Region so I'm not sure that winning was the best way to ingratiate himself with his northern colleagues!
Follow this link for a full round up of the results from the day (toggle the drop down menu to switch from the team scores to the individual pro scores).
Ian Goulty scored a hole in one at the eleventh which meant that he wrapped up the nearest the pin prize on that hole pretty swiftly!
He also incredibly scored a hole in one in last year's Pro Am so it's proving to be a very expensive experience being so deadly accurate on such a busy day!
We ran a raffle on the day for the diabetes type 1 charity JDRF and raised a staggering £675, which was a brilliant effort. Bill Harvey was a star, selling the vast majority of the tickets so a huge thank you to him for all that he did on the day and in fact all that he does on a regular basis by helping out on the course. He'll be embarrassed but I'll say it anyway, every golf club needs a Bill Harvey!
So on to some more thankyous:
- Everyone who entered a team
- All the professionals
- Our superb greenkeeping team of Russell, Dave Taylor and Dave Blythe

Congratulations to Helen Davies (pictured) for winning last week's Par Competition with a fine score of three up. Pam Dixon scored the same but lost out on a card playoff. Third place went to Min Fishwick with two up.Also pictured is Brian Greenbank following his win in the Captain's prize ten days or so ago which I didn't have in time to put in last week's newsletter.
And finally there were at least six of our members at Glastonbury at the weekend and here's a great photo of Vicky Chamberlain and Caroline Perkin during their trip, dressed for success!
